Orion Electrotech approached Halt for a marketing strategy, which evolved into a brand refresh, a fit-for-purpose website and the team who now supports their marketing every month.

Orion Electrotech places contract and permanent talent across construction, engineering, manufacturing and utilities, building the teams that build the country’s infrastructure. Grant Nesbitt and Claire Morton first came to Halt for a marketing strategy and roadmap. That single piece of thinking has since grown into a brand refresh, a new website and an ongoing marketing team.
Grant Nesbitt and Claire Morton knew exactly what they wanted to start with: a plan.
Orion is a substantial specialist recruiter working across construction, engineering, manufacturing and utilities, with regional offices and a large team of sector specialists behind it. Marketing a business like that is a real undertaking. There are four sectors with quite different audiences, employers and job seekers to serve on both sides of the market, regional markets to speak to, and service models running from contract recruitment through to managed services.
So the first brief was a strategy and roadmap: where marketing should focus, in what order, and what good would look like. It is a sensible place to begin, and a rare one. Plenty of businesses ask for the output long before they have settled on what they are trying to achieve.
What became clear during that work was that the brand and the website needed attention before anything else could do its job properly.
Chris Cranshaw led the strategy and the direction, working closely with Grant and Claire.
The roadmap set out what Orion’s marketing should be doing across its sectors and regions, who it needed to reach on both sides of the market, and the order things should happen in. That last part matters more than it sounds. A roadmap that tries to do everything at once tends to deliver very little, so much of the value was in the sequencing: what comes first, what follows, and what waits.
It also surfaced the honest answer to a question Orion had not thought to ask. The brand and the site were holding the marketing back, and no amount of campaign activity was going to fix that. Far better to say so at the strategy stage than to spend a year working around it.
Grant and Claire took that on board, and the engagement grew from a piece of thinking into a full programme of work.
The branding came first. Orion’s identity needed updating to match the business it had become, a specialist with real depth across four demanding sectors. James Bennett handled the design work, evolving the brand so it carried more authority while staying recognisably Orion to the clients and candidates who already knew them well.
Then the website, which Gavin Cranshaw developed with George Cook. Fit-for-purpose was the brief, and for Orion that means a site doing several jobs at once. Each sector needs its own space, because a utilities client and a manufacturing engineer arrive looking for very different things. Employers and job seekers both need clear routes in. The regional offices need representing. The five service models, from contract recruitment through to managed services, each need explaining properly. And the media hub and case studies give Orion somewhere to show its expertise.
Getting that architecture right is most of the work on a site of this size, and it is what turns a website into something the marketing can really build on.
