Wilton & Wood

Wilton & Wood are specialist recruiters for the science industry, covering life science, diagnostics and analytical chemistry, and working with organisations across Europe, the US and beyond. Founder George Wilton engaged Halt to create the brand and the website he would launch on, with a proposition built around powering the people behind scientific breakthroughs.

The Brief

George Wilton was launching a recruitment business into one of the most demanding audiences there is. The people Wilton & Wood place work in genomics, bioprocessing, cell and gene therapy, molecular diagnostics, chromatography and spectroscopy. They are scientists, and scientists notice when something has been done carelessly.

So the brand had to be immaculate. Clean, precise and credible enough to sit alongside the laboratories and biotech businesses Wilton & Wood work with, while carrying the warmth of a founder-led firm whose clients talk about communication, kindness and support.

It also had to hold three specialisms that are related but distinct, across life science, diagnostics and analytical chemistry, and speak to both sides of the market in several countries.

As a start-up, there was one more requirement, and it is the one that matters most. Everything had to look established from the first day. A new business gets no credit for being new.

Our Actions

The identity was built to feel scientific without being clinical: modern, uncluttered and confident, with plenty of space to let it breathe. That restraint is deliberate, because in a market of laboratories and precision instruments, a brand that feels considered says more about the business than any amount of decoration would.

The website was designed around the proposition and the photography. Real scientific imagery, laboratories, microscopes and people at work, gives the site immediate credibility with an audience who would spot generic stock imagery in a second.

Structurally, each of the three specialisms gets its own detailed breakdown, so a cell and gene therapy specialist and a chromatography expert each find their own territory. The contingent model is explained clearly, with no upfront costs and payment on a successful hire, and there are separate routes in for employers and candidates. George’s own involvement runs throughout, since a founder-led service is central to what Wilton & Wood offer.

Our Results

Wilton & Wood launched with a brand and a website that look like an established specialist firm, which is exactly what a start-up in this market needs.

The design does real commercial work. Scientists and hiring managers in life science make quick judgements about credibility, and an immaculate, precise brand answers that question before anyone reads a word of copy.

The three specialism areas give the site room to grow as the business does, and the founder-led story is properly told, so a prospective client understands they will be dealing with George himself.

For a business whose whole purpose is supporting the people behind scientific breakthroughs, launching with something this carefully made feels entirely right.
